Wrestlemania 35 Night 1 is one half of the 35th annual Pro Wrestling Event sponsored, produced, and aired by WWE. It was held for wrestlers under the RAW and Smackdown brands. Night 1 took place on April 6th, 2019 at The MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Main card featured 7 matches including the Main Event that was a dream match between Roman Reigns and John Cena along with the Triple Threat TLC match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships, and a five star march recipient between Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch.

This would also be the first mania since his return to not feature Brock Lesnar and the last Wrestlemania to feature the Undertaker until Wrestlemania 36 where he'll have his final match against AJ Styles on Night 1 of Wrestlemania 36. This is also the first Wrestlemania to be broadcasted on multiple nights instead of the traditional 1 night after the main criticism of Wrestlemania 34 being the overall length of the event.

Background[]

WrestleMania is WWE's flagship pay-per-view (PPV) and livestreaming event, having first been held in 1985. It was the company's first pay-per-view produced and was also WWE's first major event available via livestreaming when the company launched the WWE Network in February 2014. It is the longest-running professional wrestling event in history and is held annually between mid-March to mid-April. It was the first of WWE's original four pay-per-views, which includes Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series, referred to as the "Big Four". WrestleMania is ranked the sixth most valuable sports brand in the world by Forbes, and has been described as the Super Bowl of sports entertainment. Much like the Super Bowl, cities bid for the right to host the year's edition of WrestleMania.

Announced on January 26th, 2018, Wrestlemania 35 Nights 1 & 2 was the 4th Wrestlemania (since Mania IV, ManiaV, and Mania 29) to be held in East Rutherford, New Jersey and in MetLife Stadium and the Sixth to be held in the New York Metropolitan area (after Mania 1, Mania 2, Mania X, Mania XX, and Mania 29).

There are four official songs for the event with both nights having two each. For Night 1, the official theme songs were Boogie by Brookhampton and BLOODMONEY by Poppy.

On the March 11th episode of Monday Night RAW, a returning Miz revealed he, alongside Rapper Snoop Dogg, would host the events but separately, as The Miz would host Night 1, while Snoop Dogg would host Night 2. Snoop Dogg revealed during the pre-show of night 1 that him, Jay Z, and Linkin Park would perform at Night 2 of the event.

Storylines[]

Night 1 comprised of 8 match total, with 1 match being on the Pre-Show.The matches resulted from scripted storylines, in which wrestlers portrayed heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results were predetermined by WWE's writers on the RAW and Smackdown brand. With storylines produced on their weekly television shows, Monday Night, RAW and Friday Night, Smackdown.
