VoW Double Jeopardy (2016) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event presented by Visionaries of Wrestling. It took place on February 1, 2016 at Coliseo Héctor Solá Bezares in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Eleven professional wrestling matches took place on the night, with one being on the pre-show, and four being championship matches. The show featured a double main event, with main event one being The Requiem defending the VoW Twin City Championship against The Neon Babes in a Double Jeopardy Ladder Match; main event two was a grudge match between Matt Slater and Cera.

Background[]

The main match on the show was between Matt Slater and Cera, whose rivalry had been brewing over an extended period of time. The Neon Babes won the opportunity to face The Requiem for the VoW Twin City Championship when they defeated the Chaos Sworn in a #1 Contender's Match.

Event[]

Before the event went live on pay-per-view, a Battle Royal was held to determine who would get a shot at Katie Moicelle's Zero Gravity Championship at the following Breakthrough. Lukas Emery and Grim Ragnarson were simultaneously the first competitors to be eliminated,

when they were tossed over the top rope by Alec Rose. Dustin Holt eliminated Jamo, but was then himself eliminated by Rose. Rebecca Saint was next out of the match, courtesy of a clothesline from Valerie Beasley; she herself saw elimination at the hands of Julius Brooks. Brooks eventually booted Rose from the match, earning the title shot.

The first match to air on the pay-per-view was a Tables Match for the VoW I4NI Championship, between champion Tyler Storm and challenger Dathyn. Dathyn taunted the champion frequently during the contest -- at one point verbally degrading Storm's wife Zelda -- before he was driven through a table by the Eye of the Storm, allowing Storm to retain his title.

The second match of the show saw Emma Carlisle and Joanna Thade, collectively known as the Chaos Sworn, face the makeshift team of Owen Gonsalves and Patrick Jones. The match started abruptly when Chaos Sworn assaulted Gonsalves during his entrance, and it ended with Gonsalves being pinned by Carlisle, following Ultimate Discord.

The following match was between Zahara Matisse and Kelsey Spencer, culminating from an exchange on social media. The highly-competitive match ended when Matisse countered Spencer's Kelsey Cloverleaf into a roll-up for the quick win. Spencer uncharacteristically praised Matisse after the bout, even embracing her opponent.

Kincaid defeated Desmond Knight in the fourth match of the evening, earning some redemption in the process. Zero Gravity Champion Katie Moicelle faced off against Matt Robinson in a non-title bout in the next match, set to happen after Robinson assaulted Moicelle after her title victory at Breakthrough 38. Moicelle defeated Robinson soundly in the contest, but was assaulted following the closing bell. She was saved by her good friend, Tyron Bickerton.

Winter Pine defeated Stacy Jones in the next match, despite the fact that Jones had a handful of the bottom rope to break the pin attempt; the referee simply didn't see it. Pine and Jones brawled following the match, ending with Jones being driven into the steel ring steps by Pine's Frostbite finisher, right in front of Zelda Lawson.

In the following 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match, Ryder Blade's record setting reign as VoW Xcel Champion came to an end at the hands of Constance Chapin. Blade scored the first fall, and last the following two, ending his reign at an impressive 238 days.

Right before the first main event, Casanova English faced Seth Iser in defense of his World Visionary Championship. Iser appeared to have the

championship won, having successfully pinned English following Black Magic -- however, this was not the case, as Sky Sangue appeared and reversed the referee's decision by disqualifying Iser for using the outlawed Tombstone Piledriver.

In the first main event, The Requiem defended the VoW Twin City Championship against The Neon Babes in a Double Jeopardy Ladder Match. New champions were crowned when Evans sprayed Williams with an unknown substance to incapacitate him, allowing herself and Neon (who was oblivious to her partner's shenanigans, at the time) to simultaneously retrieve the suspended belts. The final match of the evening was a No Disqualification Match between Matt Slater and Cera, which Slater won with a roll-up. The very instant the three count was made, the arena blackened; when lighting returned, Cera was shown unconscious in the ring with a distraught Slater, with EMTs arriving at the ring to tend to an apparently non-responsive Cera. The confusing scene faded to the pay-per-view poster, ending the show abruptly.

Aftermath[]

In the days following the event, an update was provided on the condition of Cera; she had gone into cardiac arrest and passed away as a result of her injuries. Former Twin City Champion Tyron Bickerton announced that he would be taking time off to treat a suspected brain tumour.

As per the agreed upon stipulation, Julius Brooks was granted his match against Katie Moicelle for the Zero Gravity Title. Moicelle won, and retained her championship.
