The UWL World Championship is a wrestling e-fed championship owned by the Universal Wrestling League promotion. The inaugural champion was crowned on December 28, 2005, when Jason Christopher defeated Flap Flanagan in the finals of an eight-man tournament.
Daron Smythe is the current champion in his second reign.
History[]
Universal Wrestling League was founded in 2005 by, Jay Jefferson. In November 2005, UWL announced that the promotion would be introducing its first own title, the UWL Heavyweight Championship. The UWL Heavyweight Championship gained World Title status in August 2006, when Shawn Stevens defended the title in Canada at a Lion's Road event in Canada. The title was renamed UWL World Championship.
Championship tournament[]
On, December 21, 2005, UWL announced that the inaugural UWL World Champion would be determined in a single-elimination tournament on December 21 concluding on December 28. In the end, Jason Christopher pinned Flap Flanagan in the finals to win the tournament and become the inaugural UWL World Champion.
