Tag Team Superbrawl was originally intended to be a Smackdown exclusive PPV for June of 2019. Plans changed when the King of the Ring tournament, originally planned as a RAW exclusive PPV, was revealed to be a inter-promotional PPV. Thus, WWE created brand new TV specials for RAW and Smackdown. RAW would have the Wild Card Roulette, and Smackdown would have the Tag Team Superbrawl. The special would be happen twice in 2021 with the first one coinciding with Super Bowl LV as an alternative version of Halftime Heat.
