The 2017 SummerSlam was the 30th annual SummerSlam professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and livestreaming event produced by WWE. It was held for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. The event took place on August 20, 2017, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the third consecutive year. It is WWE's first major Pay-Per-View to be sponsored and played on ESPN +.

Thirteen matches were contested at the event, including three on the Kickoff pre-show. The event featured eight championship matches, the most for a SummerSlam event, where five of the titles changed hands. In the main event, Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, and former champion Brock Lesnar in a Highly acclaimed Fatal 4 Way Match for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship after former champion, Shinsuke Nakamura was forced to vacate the title following a injury sustained during a live tour in Japan. and in the penultimate match, Hideo Itami defeated John Cena to win his first WWE Championship. In other prominent matches, former rivals, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) to win the WWE World Tag Team Championships, Sasha Banks would defeat Alexa Bliss to win her first RAW Women's Championship, Finn Balor defeated Jinder Mahal for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and Faria Paige defeated Naomi for the Smackdown Women's Championship.

SummerSlam is an annual professional wrestling event produced every August by WWE since 1988. Dubbed "The Biggest Party of the Summer", it is one of the promotion's original four pay-per-views, along with WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series, referred to as the "Big Four". It has since become considered WWE's second biggest event of the year behind WrestleMania. Announced on September 28, 2015, the 2017 event was the 30th SummerSlam and was scheduled to be held on August 20, 2017, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the third consecutive year. It featured wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brand divisions, and in addition to airing on traditional PPV worldwide, the event was available to livestream on the WWE Network and on ESPN+. The fourth time since WWE's partnership with ESPN began. Tickets went on sale on March 25 through Ticketmaster.
