Simon James Funk (born December 29, 1977), better known as SJ Funk, is a Mexican born, English professional wrestler not signed to any company.
Background[]
SJ was born outside of Puerto Aventuras in Mexico, while his parents and older siblings were on holiday visiting SJ's Great Grandmother, who is a native of the Puerto Aventuras area, during the Christmas/New Year holiday period.
SJ was born on December 29, 1977 and is the elder half of "The Terrible Twins". He was born with the full name of Simon James Funk, and has since shortened it to SJ Funk, via Simon J. Funk. SJ has three siblings, his unidentical twin brother Brian Funk, who is known in the wrestling world as "The Inferno Kid" Brian Haye, an older sister Stacy who is 2years SJ's elder, and finally Martin, who is the eldest of the four, being a further 2years older than Stacy.
SJ began his interest in wrestling at the early age of just 4, after constantly being taken to watch the old World of Sport wrestling that was broadcast on television in the United Kingdom. As well as being taken to watch the major wrestling companies in the country of his birth and heritage Mexico. His interest grew greater every year, and when he reached the age of 12, he joined a local wrestling school for children that was being run by a Scottish Professional wrestler John Mcillroy. Under the watch of John, SJ trained long and hard and showed great determination to join any professional wrestling company when he was deemed old enough.
However at the age of 16, he left school and while he couldn't find a company with its very own academy SJ enlisted into the Regular British Army. SJ was in the regular army for only a year, before he decided to enroll his name in application for the Elite Armed Force known as the Special Air Service (SAS). SJ seamed determined to prove himself as an elite soldier and at the age of 17 he became the youngest SAS Soldier, passing through all the training and selection programs known in the regiment as sickeners. SJ's career with the SAS was only a short one of four and a half years, but he did become a great soldier and was respected by all his piers. SJ' left the SAS and the army altogether due to suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) caused by the exposure to several if not more traumatic events in places such as the Borneo Jungle, the Telok Anson Swamp and Northern Ireland. SJ underwent a huge amount of psychological treatment as he kept having flashbacks and nightmares about all that passed before him, as well as suffering from huge amounts of anger, which he went through rigorous anger management courses. SJ reacted well to the treatment and a full year after leaving the SAS and Army on the medical grounds SJ was given a full bill of health, both physically and mentally. No longer suffering from the anger issues, however he does tend to remember those conrades that fell only a few short feet from him in the past, of which still have a slight effect, but SJ knows how to deal with them.
Entering Wrestling - The Spanish Federation of Wrestling (SFW)[]
At the same time SJ got back into wrestling and only after a few short weeks joined up with the Spanish Federation of Wrestling. He trained for a couple of months doing dark matches under various gimmicks, before making his full debut as a member of the full roster in Barcelona, Spain, under the name of "Funky" wearing his original colours of red and blue along with his traditional half blue, half red mask. The name was both a play on his surname "Funk" and the Funky character that he was backstage. His debut gimmick in wrestling was as a luchador to represent his roots from Mexico, hence the mask. SJ's step up into the full roster was met with an immediate impact, taking on all the well known lucha's in the company, all of which he managed to hold his own, and even beat most of them. It was at his second SFW PPV that he joined the ranks of Cruiserweight Champion. His title match came against one who was known as one of, if not the, greatest Cruiserweight/Luchador in the SFW History "WindyMan" Davis (Sean Davis). The match earned SJ the respect of Davis and soon after SJ's three month Cruiserweight Title reign ended Davis asked to team with SJ and attempt to take control and light up the tag team division. However things didn't go too well, and the team didn't last long. He was about to rejoin the Cruiserweight division again, but was stopped before doing so by the SFW President, who told SJ that he was to stay in the tag team division and was to partner a new member coming from the SFW Academy, and SJ was to help the new guy be put over as a Face. SJ agreed although he was at the time confused as to why he was the one being chosen to do so. It was a few days later that SJ found out who his partner was to be. It was none other than another Mexican-British guy, known as "The Inferno Kid". Upon meeting his new partner SJ was shocked to find out that it was none other than his own twin brother Brian. This was the start of SJ's wrestling career as a tag team competitor, and the formation of the tag team known as "Fiery Disco Fever" aka FDF. From here the duo went onto capture the SFW Tag Team Championship titles three times. The first in a fantastic team match against the long time hated Spanish Tag Team of Juan and Manuel Carlos known as "Los Hermanos de Carlos" or the English Translation of "The Carlos Brothers", The match was one of the longest on the card and ended up with SJ hitting his finishing manoeuver of the time, "The Costa Del Funk" on Manuel, who with his brother tied up with Brian Haye on the outside was left no choice but to tap out, giving FDF the victory and their first tag team title reign of many to come. "The Carlos Brothers were not happy at the fact that FDF had won the titles even though it was fare and square. The Carlos Brothers demanded their rematch, in which they resorted back to their usually underhanded tactics, destracting the referee and using brass knuckles to known SJ out cold and reclaimed back the tag team titles. The following few weeks, after on purposefully dodging another rematch "The Carlos Brothers" were given the ultimatum, either defend the titles at the PPV or they would be stripped of the titles. Many people commented that which ever decision they would make, they would lose the titles. They agreed to defend the tag straps, not knowing that the match was to be a tag team elimination tables match, against FDF. It was to be another great match and a very long match to boot, with the pendulum swinging back and forth. The first elimination saw Brian Haye slam Juan Carlos through a table but the referee was down, and Manuel entered the ring and laid Brian out with a steel chair and pulled him onto the broken table moving Juan out of the way and helped the referee come too. As he did, he declared that Brian Haye was eliminated and it left the situation as a two on one, against SJ. SJ was pretty much on the receiving end of a beating, and the brothers set him up for a top rope powerbomb through the table, SJ reversed it into a huricanrana and sent Manuel through the table, to even things up. However "The Carlos Brothers didn't take the elimination thoroughly and still kept on with a two on one situation, they then set up another table and went for a double superplex, but they were not away that Brian Haye had returned and attacked the eliminated Manuel with a steel chair knocking him out of the ring and followed him outside. This distraction caused Juan to take his eyes and attention from SJ, who then managed to pick up Juan and drove him through the table with a Powerbomb ending the match and giving FDF their second title reign. This title reign lasted a lot longer than their first. They defeated quite a few teams including the Carlos Brothers again before finally relenquishing control of the titles to the team of Chris Ward and Marcos Juiliano. The match ended with SJ being hit by a move that Chris later called "The Scene Deletion" which is a compact piledriver. A couple of weeks later during a number one contendership match for the tag titles, Brian Haye was forced out of active wrestling with a torn hamstring muscle, vertually leaving SJ to fend for himself within the company. Also with the injury to his brother SJ was unable to continue on in the tag team division. A few weeks after returning to singles competition the SFW's Heavyweight Champion, Oscar Martinez had gone to management to set up a 16man competition for people he hadn't face before, with the winner receiving a shot at the Heavyweight Title. SJ was one of those chosen.
His first round match in the Heavyweight tournament was against one Giovanni Zivarno, who later became Marcos Juiliano. Zivarno at the time proved a tough first round opponent, with their match being signalled out as the best of the round. SJ managed to gain the win thanks to a move that became somewhat of a finishing move known as the "Funk-i-nator" which was a Sidewinder Reverse Fireman slam (Widowmaker/Reverse F-U) the move got the victory an SJ advanced into the last eight, where he faced off against an old foe, Juan Carlos. Juan as always proved to be a hard match, but SJ managed to counter his attempted back body drop into a modified version of the Costa Del Funk. Juan was left in the centre of the ring and had no option but to tap out. SJ now in the semi-finals faced off against a man known as "THE Judas" and was the first time in his wrestling career in which SJ faced a man over the size of 6foot5. Judas was just shy of 7foot, standing at 6'10. The match was brutal for SJ, who had to use his quickness in order to mount offence, not to mention his newest finishing move would be out of the question against the larger guy. Even when he attempted to use his other move, his submission based finisher "The Costa Del Funk", SJ was unable to take him down and the move was countered by Judas, and nailed an Argentine backbreaker, the move he used as his finisher and called it "The Holy Backstabber." However SJ managed to somehow get his shoulder up before the three count. Judas was unhappy at this and picked SJ up to attempt another "Holy Backstabber" but SJ fought free and managed to hit a superkick to the back of Judas's head which knocked him down to a knee. SJ then used the ropes for a springboard and managed to nail the bulldog and put Judas into the crossface to complete the "Costa Del Funk". Judas tapped almost immediately to the surprised of everyone in the arena, and so it was. SJ Funk known of course as Funky had made it into the final against the odds.
But there were to be more odds in the final, as SJ was to face the only member of the tournament that was surrounded in mystery. This mystery man had used his mysterious identity to gain advantage over all of his other opponents in that side of the draw. However the masked man's hidden identity did not phase SJ much. SJ took blow after blow, as well as dishing out his own series of offence. The Mystery Man thought he had the match won after hitting a spinning implant DDT from the top turnbuckle, a move that he had used to defeat his other opponents, but SJ landed to close to the ropes and like a veteran somehow managed to be conscious enough to put his foot on the bottom rope to stop the pin account. The Mystery Man began to argue with the referee and gave SJ enough time to shake most of the cobwebs out and climb back to his feet. As the Mystery Man turned round SJ hoisted him onto his shoulders and nailed the Funkinator and floated over into a cover and got the victory. After the match SJ signalled to the crowd that he was going to remove the mask, and as he was in the process of removing the mask, he was nailed from behind with a steel chair from Oscar Martinez. Martinez continued the beating and was helped by the Mystery Man until security stopped and allowed the EMT's to attend to the unconscious SJ. The following week after Oscar Martinez was celebrating his successful attack of SJ, knowing, or at least in belief that SJ was not in the arena. Oscar started mocking that the tournament was a pathetic tournament, and was full of losers and it showed by the fact that SJ won the whole tournament. This never sat well with the backstage locker-room, especially those who were apart of the tournament, more so the 7 ft bigman, Judas. Judas hit the ring to confront Oscar. With Oscar destracted by the bigman, SJ came through the crowd and attacked the champ. After a few moments of the assault, Judas span SJ round and delivered a vicious chokeslam, Martinez got back to his feet and started to beat down SJ, but little did he know, that SJ and Judas were working together, and that Judas' Chokeslam on SJ was faked. Oscar turned to Judas and told Judas to hit the "Holy Backstabber" on SJ, but instead Judas grabbed Oscar by the throat and hoisted him into the air before driving him down to the ground with a vicious chokeslam. After which SJ nipped up and went to the ring apron as the Big man Judas lifted Oscar to his feet and holding him upright as SJ nailed the "Costa Del Funk". SJ kept the hold locked in until he was forced to release the hold by security.
A week later, there was an official contract signing in which meant that the participants had to sign the contract in order to not be allowed to touch each other before their title match at the SFW's Supercard show. SJ didn't trust Oscar and requested that he signed it first and that he would check afterwards to make sure it was correctly signed. Two weeks later at the Supercard Show, SJ had his opportunity to win the SFW Heavyweight Championship. An opportunity in which would prove that SJ could hack it with the bigger men of the company. The title match was by far the most difficult and most exciting of all of SJ's matches so far. The match lasted almost double the longest other match on the card if not longer. The momentum swang back and forth between the two competitors as if on a pendulum. Just as SJ was going for the "Costa Del Funk" Oscar managed to counter and hit his superkick finisher, and with SJ unable to stop the kick due to his momentum from the springboard attempt was his square in the chin. Oscar made the immediate cover, but somehow SJ dug down deep in order to kick out, much to the dismay and annoyance of Oscar. He got to his feet and stalked SJ, who with the aid of the ropes managed to climb to his feet, although very much unsteadily. As SJ turned Oscar went for another Superkick, and connected once again to the chin of SJ, but just like the last time SJ somehow managed to get the shoulder out and show some superb resilience. Again, Oscar stalked SJ and went for a third consecutive Superkick, but this time SJ managed to avoid contact, and lifted Oscar into the air before driving him down with the Funkinator. However the two previous superkicks took their toll and SJ was unable to move straight into the cover. At the count of 9 both men struggled to their feet. Again Oscar went for a third superkick, but SJ ducked and lifted Oscar up for another Funkinator, but Oscar counted, and another Superkick attempt. Again SJ ducked and as Oscar turned SJ met him with a taste of his own medicine and delivered a nice sharp superkick to the chin. SJ went for the pin, and this time it was Oscar's turn to barely kick out. SJ picked Oscar up to his feet, and then onto his shoulders, this time he managed to connect with a second Funkinator, and this time he went for the cover. Another barely managed kickout from Oscar. SJ this time climbed out to the ring apron and stalked Oscar. This time he managed to connect with a springboard headlock, but Oscar managed to counter another "Costa Del Funk" and turned it into a belly to back suplex, dropping SJ on his head. Oscar had at this point taken enough, and went outside the ring, and grabbed two steal chairs, throwing one into the ring, he rolled in under the bottom rope with the second. As SJ got to his feet, Oscar went to swing the chair but was stopped by the referee, as the ref took the chair and was distracted long enough by walking to the ropes to throw the chair out of the ring, Oscar being the cunning man he was grabbed the other chair and nailed SJ square in the head. He dropped the chair and picked up SJ to his feet, and hooking in a Samoan clutch, before jumping in the air and landing on his but, to deliver a reverse Argentine Backbreaker / slash Samoan SitDown Gut Buster. Oscar thought this would get the victory but again SJ managed to kick out after two. Oscar was mightily angry at the fact that SJ wouldn't stay down, and again picked up the chair, the referee attempted to stop him, but Oscar pushed him out of the way, and as SJ again got to his feet Oscar nailed him in the head with the chair causing the DQ, but ensuring that he would hold onto the title.
The management were not happy at the ending of the match, and so gave SJ a rematch, two shows later, this time things were to be difference as Judas, was to be the special guest referee. Again the match proved to be a crowd attractor, and again the momentum swung back and forth between the two competitors. SJ again went for a "Costa Del Funk" but again just like before he was met with an Oscar Martinez superkick. A two count was all that was achieved by the superkick, so immediately Oscar went for the chair, and again nailed SJ over the head viciously. However Judas refused to make the DQ call, so another shot to the head of SJ from the chair sent SJ crashing to the mat, where he seemed to be out cold. Again Judas refused to DQ Oscar, and so Oscar went for the cover, but again SJ kicked out at 2. Oscar started claiming Judas was counting slow, before setting up the chair into its unfolded state. He grabbed SJ looking to nail a powerbomb onto the chair. However Oscar's argument with Judas had allowed SJ to slightly re-coperate, and reversed the move picking Oscar up onto his shoulders before nailing the "Funkinator" onto the chair. SJ made the cover, and Oscar count not kick out and so it was SJ had won his first Heavyweight Title.
SJ managed to keep onto the title for just over a month and a half before he eventually lost out to Nacho Guadiola. The match was again another long and hard fought battle with the ending finally coming when SJ attempted a "Costa Del Funk" but Nacho caught SJ and drove him head first into the mat with three consecutive belly to back suplex' followed by a Magnum Driver. SJ was unable to kick out and lost the title.
A few weeks afterwards, SJ was set to take on one half of the tag team champions, Juan Carlos, in a standard match. SJ picked up the victory when Manuel interfered and the Carlos Brothers decided to beat down their long time arch rival. The following week, SJ requested and was given a match against Manuel, again SJ got the victory and again it was by DQ as this time Juan made the interference. This went on for another few weeks. Then at the Supercard Show SJ chose to face off against both the Carlos Brothers in a two on one handicapped no disqualification match. The match came and as per everyones thoughts The Carlos Brothers seemed to have control of the match and refused to pin SJ even making him kickout. After another few more falsified covers, A masked fan had enough, jumped the rails and pulled out a steel pipe attacking Juan Carlos. This cause a distraction for Manuel, and SJ took full advantage and hit him with a chair before nailing a Funkinator, gaining the three count while security tried to get the fan off Juan. After the match however SJ invited the fan into the ring, shaking hands before the fan revealled himself to be none other that "The Inferno Kid" Brian Haye, SJ's brother. So from there another all out bash and war between the two sets of brothers began again. Of course the tag titles eventually came into it, and after three matches in which FDF failed to capture the tag titles, once due to a defeat, the other two because of the Carlos Brothers getting themselves disqualified. Finally it came down to one more match. The final chance that FDF would get for the rest of the federations life if they failed to win the titles. However, the owner decided to add a special rule to the match, in which if The Carlos Brothers, intentially lost the match in which would stop their opponents winning the titles, FDF would be then declared the champions. The match started fair enough but it wasn't long before things turned into a brawl, both in and around the ring. It ended up being more of a complete arena brawl then a simple one on one match. Rules went out the window. The match came to a close when "The Inferno Kid" hit a top rope jackhammer suplex on Juan, and got the pin. The move not only gave FDF their third tag title reign, but it also put Juan Carlos out of action for quite some time. FDF managed to hold the titles for a month or so but let them slip when the SFW changed hands and backstage politics got in the way causing FDF to lose the titles without even being allowed to cash in their re-match clause. However things went bad to worse as shortly after the SFW's new management caused the company to close and SJ returned to his home in England now as a free agent.
Moving On (i) - Elite World Wrestling (EEW)[]
It wasn't too long after leaving the dead SFW before SJ was snapped up. He signed a contract with the Elite European Wrestling. SJ joined the EEW as a member of a tag team, again alongside his brother Brian, who once again donned the name "The Inferno Kid" Brian Haye, and FDF had a new lease of life within the wrestling world.
FDF made an immediate impact within the EEW, as in their debut match, they were booked against the reiging tag team champions, a team that had been tag champions for almost two years, Jack Hudson and Kyle Walters aka The Devine Players. The match ended with FDF hitting their tag team finishing move which was a combination of SJ hitting a release overhead German suplex, Brian would catch their legs grab them up and turn round to bounce their throat across the top rope and use the moment to hit an overhead wheelbarrow suplex which SJ would finish off with a Pheonix splash. The whole EEW stood and take note, not just the tag division. It was only a few weeks after when the rematch happened and this time, the titles were on the line. Again the match fell with the same result but ended this time when SJ Funk hit the Funkinator on Hudson to get the pinfall. FDF were back in business and once again tag team champions, and their fourth run as a champion wearing team. They didn't hold the titles for too long though. Their third title defence say they being screwed out of the match, when a masked man interfered with the referee distracted, and hit SJ with some sort of steel bar or pipe. The following week, the masked man showed himself to be one half of the long time enemies of FDF's one half of th infamous Carlos Brothers, Juan. The following week, in a scheduled match between SJ and Juan, SJ was again attacked, and again by a masked man, who after the referee called for the DQ, would reveal himself to be the other Carlos Brother, Manuel. The two brothers attempted to continue the beatdown but were thwarted by the incoming missile of Brian Haye. SJ due to injuries was made to take the night off the following week, but it still didn't stop him and his brother making a statement to the Carlos Brothers, and after sneaking to ringside during the Carlos Brothers Tag Team Debut, after the match which the Carlos Brothers pulled out a victory, whilst celebrating and talking smack to the crowd and aiming at FDF. SJ and Brian slid into the ring and waited for both Carlos Brothers to turn round before getting in a sneak attack of their own.

Funk at EWF's Beach Bash
A week later EEW management booked a match between Manuel and SJ, one on one with both mens partners banned from ringside for both before, during and directly after the match, if either partner was to disobey the rules then his team would be suspended. However Juan found away to get to ringside without officials knowing by buying a ticket and posing as a "FUNKY" fan with a replica mask. The "masked fan" would throw some powder into SJ's eyes whilst on the outside which caused Manuel to pick up a cheap victory. After the bell rang the so-called fan jumped the rails and helped Manuel to beat down SJ yet again. Security had to stop them from the continuing, but when both were escorted backstage, they were both met with chair shots to the skull from the awaiting Brian Haye. Brian then took the mask off the head of Juan, the EEW management then decided against the suspension but decided that both teams should be eliminated from the up-and-coming tag team turmoil tournament at the PPV, and instead where to face each other in a tag team hell in a cell match. The match itself went on for a lot longer than any of the other tag team matches on the tag team specific PPV "Team Supremecy". SJ and Juan fought on the outside of the ring and at one point SJ threw Juan hard into the steel cell and his momentum actually broke the cell wall and they both began to fight around ringside, and into the crowd. With the Brian and Manuel fighting it out inside the cell. After a several minutes SJ and Juan made their way to the top of the cell where they continued to fight, the fans not knowing whether or not to look at the action inside or on top of the cell. Those who were watching the top saw a horrific site when Juan was sent crashing from the top of the cell through the announce table when SJ hit him with the Funkinator. After which SJ managed to catch his breath and climb down the side of the cell checking on Juan who was know receiving medical attention. Realising that Juan was pretty much out of the match now SJ entered into the structure and helped his brother pick up the win when they nailed the Fiery Drop on Manuel to allow Brian to roll into the cover for the three count. With the brutality of the match, and crashing through the announce table, Juan Carlos suffered a couple of broken ribs, a slipped spinal disk and a fractured skull, and thus bringing an end to the feud between FDF and The Carlos Brothers.
The brutality of the match also caused SJ to take a few weeks off as he had suffered a dislocated right shoulder, and a dislocated thumb of his left hand. Thankfully SJ's injuries were only minor to that of his opponents and he returned to action alongside his brother.
--- Please note that the bio part apart from Title History has been lost.
The Pathetic - World Wrestling Corperation (WWC)[]
After touring with the A2W, and the show closed its doors, due to administration, the undefeated SJ Funk's contract was void and so he went into the free agent bowl again. It wasn't long afterwards when he was contacted by the WWC chairman and CEO, Josh Andrews. Andrews was keen in bringing SJ into WWC, to add some extra fire-power and to add some much needed experience on the roster. However, SJ's stay in WWC only lasted three months, all of which saw him defeat opponent after opponent. Every single competitor that signed with WWC in this period, faced off against SJ, and all failed to win. Although, during this three months, SJ was only put forward for the title on his last match in the company. A match in which he won, but did not claim the title. SJ hit his O.F.D on the champion, but the referee was told not to make the count by the owner. After the statement the whole WWC locker-room came down and jumped on SJ, causing him to win via disqualification. SJ was subsequently fired from WWC, with the reason being due to his injuries which he suffered in the beatdown. Subsequently, a few short weeks later, the WWC closed down, in what is lead to believe the fact that the company had declared bankrupt as SJ filed a lawsuit against Andrews and the WWC for the injuries he sustained in the planed and ordered attack by Andrews. The lawsuit then turned round and was directed souly onto the shoulders of Josh Andrews and he himself declared bankrupt.
A CWF Return! - Joining the Classic - Classic Wrestling Federation (CWF)[]
SJ Funk, returned from a small absence from the ring in January 2010, where he signed up to the Classic Wrestling Federation.
His first match for the company was to take place at CWF's weekly show Saturday Night Showdown on January 23, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada, against Israel Blair. SJ made a small impact with a debut win against the bigger man, after a hard fought match, SJ hitting one of his innovative finishing moves, the G.H.D (Go Home Driver). A week later with CWF in build up to its second pay-per-view of 2010, SJ competed in a house show with a scheduled Bobby Crane show. SJ faced off against another impressive guy, Eddie Noble. In another hard fought match, and another finishing move counter, SJ managed to hook Noble's arms before hitting the O.F.D (One Funkin' Driver). In order to gain the pinfall.
A couple of weeks later, SJ had to pull out of competition for a while, due to some personal reasons. Although rumour had it that SJ had picked up an injury, it was later confirmed that he had not, and it was personal reasons for the removal from activity.
After a month or so off from wrestling, and with no words as to whether or not it would be the last time CWF saw the Funkster, after just two matches, both victories. However, SJ answered the questions from his fans when he returned to CWF, on the March 20th, episode of Showdown, after the Yoshiru Long Vs Mike Laszlo match, in which he came down, and destroyed Laszlo with his G.H.D, when Long escaped the ring. To which was the last time Laszlo has been seen. The following week, after the attack, SJ released a statement saying that he needed to make an impact and saw it the perfect one to make. Then, on the March 27th episode of Showdown, SJ competed in his first match for two months, against a fellow British wrestling star, Jimmy Johnston, and in probably his hardest match to date, SJ managed to pick up a very hard fought victory, after being the first person in CWF history to escape Jimmy's dreaded Double-J submission hold, he managed to hit Jimmy with his patented O.F.D. to get pinfall.
After a successful return match, SJ was confirmed as one of eight participants for CWF's first ever Cage of Carnage match at CWF's annual mega show Supercard VI, in which the match combined the brutality of a Chamber match and a Ladder match. The winner receiving a contract that allows the holder to challenge for any title at any time, for up to a year. The competitors where Israel Blair, Paul Blair, Eddie Noble, Ricky Chambers, Jimmy Johnston, Leon Lonewolf and [1]Mariano Fernandez. The match was indeed brutal and it showed upon its competitors, and with an elimination rule in place, the match was whittled down to the final three, SJ, Johnston and Fernandez, with a pin on any of these three releasing the others back into the frame, however at the final three, with all men beaten, and bruised, Mariano and Jimmy both force each other from the ladder and through a set of stacked tables, this giving SJ a small window of opportunity to capitalise, which he did by climbing the ladder and grabbing the briefcase.
The week following Supercard, SJ was booked on Showdown to face the then CWF Unified Champion, Terry Richards, however due to the contract held by SJ, Terry decided to drop out of competition and sent down in his place Kyle Sync and Adam Mazur, known as Jobbers for Hire. SJ, made short work of the team in the handicapped match, making both men submit at the same time while locking in both a version of the Funk Lock as well as the Costa Del Funk. Leaving SJ still remaining undefeated.
On the April 17th episode of Showdown, SJ faced off against one of CWF's champions, Sickboy. In the match, SJ still healing from the bumps and bruises suffered in the Cage of Carnage match, managed to overcome his opponent in a match that both men seemed to be equal. SJ however managed after a lot of nearfalls, to nail his O.F.D. and pick up the victory.
With the build up to the next CWF's PPV, SJ and the other wrestlers were allowed a week off, but many of them were set to appear on the latest episode of the Late Night with Bobby Crane show. SJ too

SJ posing with fans
k the time to go back to England to make an appearance at the wrestling academy that he owns. Unfortunately, due to this decision, SJ was then stuck in England, due to the shut down of t
he airports due to the Volcanic Ash Cloud over Europe causing hovac. Due to this SJ was unable to attend the Bobby Crane Show and due to the difference in Time Zones, it was shown live a little late for SJ to be a phone guest. This also meant that SJ Funk was not on hand to witness the challenge that was issued by his previous opponent Sickboy. Sickboy,
challenged SJ to a match at the PPV, and in which the National Championship would then be placed on the line. The match itself was then accepted and booked by CWF Owner Mark Xamin.
The PPV entitled Vendetta took place on Saturday, May 1 in Austin, Texas. In yet another evenly and tough fought match, with both men showing no let up, and both wanting the victory, SJ managed to capitalise on a mistake from Sickboy, and with a quick roll up managed to get the victory, and in the same time earning the CWF National Championship Title.
After a week or so, SJ took part in the Lord of The Ring Tournament, his first round match was against Mariano Fernandez on Showdown. In a hard fought even match, which saw lots of counters. The match which saw SJ somehow kick out of a Mariano - Tsunami Strike finisher (Yakuza Kick) as well as Mariano escaping from SJ's Costa Del Funk. The match came to an end when both men tired and exhausted were fighting on the turnbuckle, Mariano threw SJ back to the canvas, but he landed on his feet and instinctively nailed Mariano with a roundhouse kick, dazing the young high flyer, before climbing up and hooking Mariano's arms, then delivered Mariano back first into the canvas with a vicious Funk Bomb, thus gaining the victory.
The following week, at Night of Champions VI: Lord of The Ring II, SJ was pitted up to face off against Terry Richards in the semi-final of the LOTR tournament, the match itself saw SJ Funk come out on top after SJ nailed a Funk-U. Therefore allowing SJ to go on to the Final of the tournament later on the show. Before that however, SJ cashed in his contract he won at Supercard during a match between Leon Lonewolf and Eddie Noble, therefore becoming a short lived triple threat match, leaving SJ to walk away with the CWF's Unified Championshp Title. (Although later was announced that SJ had done so in order to unify both titles.)
Later in the show, SJ took part in the final's of the Lord of The Ring Tournament against Sickboy, the match was as before with their previous two encounters a close and hard fought battle where SJ managed to walk away with the victory. After the match in a show of respect both men shock hands.
In the finale of Night Of Champions VI: It was known that CWF had been bought out and would be changing it's name to Superior Championship Wrestling.
Superiority Shinning - Superior Championship Wrestling (SCW)[]
The Week following CWF's Night of Champions VI: SJ made his debut along with all the others on SCW television, where he was given his new title, which would be in replacement and unification of the old CWF National and Unified Championships, named the Global Championship, although with a special stipulation that it would be named after its holders country, therefore in SJ's case it was named the "British" Global Championship.
Later in the same night, on SCW's Vengeance show, SJ would be in another match with Mariano Fernandez, however this time the pair would team up with each other to take on the Blair Brothers, Israel and Paul. It was originally booked as two separate matches, but the card changed to be a tag team match. Even with their matches before hand Mariano and SJ managed to work well as a tag team and overcame the Blair Brothers when Mariano nailed Israel with a Tsunami Strike.
The following week, SJ was set to take on Mariano again this time in a triple threat match, which also contained Sickboy. However due to personal reasons, SJ was removed from the card. He was not shown on SCW viewings till two weeks later, after Leon Lonewolf and his band of "merry men" known as The Hellacious World Order (hWo) as the pair attacked Sickboy and SCW owner Mr. Johnson after their main event, it was clear that Lonewolf was aiming to send a message to SJ. However SJ had come prepared to send a message straight back to them, as he came through the crowd and demolished the hWo members except Lonewolf who made his retreat.
The following week it was the SCW's first supercard/pay-per-view show, and SJ was set to defend his British Global Championship against none other than Leon Lonewolf. In a fans choose the weapon match, which resulted in a majority vote for barbed wire bats. The match was brutal with blood being shed by both participants, however the match ended with SJ successfully defending his title, but via a method that he would not have wanted, by Disqualification, as all the members of the hWo came down and proceeded to beat SJ repeatedly until they were stopped by SCW security. The damage however was done and SJ was helped to the back.
Two weeks later on the last SCW episode of Vengeance, SJ announced that he would be unable to compete in a match against Lonewolf at the scheduled Scars and Stripes due to the injuries that he suffered at the hand of the h.W.o. Therefore giving up his right as the SCW British Global Champion.
Although SJ still under the SCW contract, was forced out into the bleakness of having no federation as the SCW soon closed before he could return. This set about him being able to get his quad muscle repair via surgery.
Current Happenings.[]
Currently with SCW going pear shaped and no longer in existence SJ Funk is no longer attached to a wrestling company, he has since returned to England, where after successful surgery he is in recuperation of it, in order to be at 100% upon his next wrestling adventure.
Personal life[]
Away from wrestling, SJ is quite the active man, with him being a director in his family run business, as well as being part of the rock band, known as "The Sin City Rockers".
SJ is married to his wife Amy Funk, who is the brother to SJ's former tag team partner and friend Leon Williams.
- It has been noted recently that the reason for SJ's recent absence in 2010 was due to his wife given birth to a still born son.
