A Rapture Match, formerly known as the Fate of the Gods Deathmatch is a match type in professional wrestling. So far, it has appeared five times: once in No Limit Wrestling Federation, once in Tilli Wrestling Federation, twice in Premium Championship Wrestling, and once in Cardinal City Pro. Leon Lonewolf is credited as the creator of this brutal match.
Background[]
The match was designed as the ultimate feud-ender and a major career-threatener. Leon Lonewolf originally designed this match for his feud with Mariano Fernandez in Elite Wrestling Federation. After (keyfabe) defeating the demon that haunted him for years, he felt guilty for all the pain he inflicted him and challenged him to one last match, billed as "The End of it all." However, EWF folded before the match can take place
Match[]
The ring is surrounded by a 20'x20'x20' cell-like structure. The ring ropes are replaced or wrapped with barbed wire. The ring apron is engulfed in flames. There are no disqualifications or Count-outs. There are a variety of weapons on the floor outside the cell and on top. At first, the goal to win was to be the last man standing after a 10-count, but Lonewolf decided to scrap it and instead have the winning conditions to be pinfalls and submissions. The winner of the match decides one of the following "fates" for their opponent:
1.) Suspended for 30 days
2.) Suspended for 60 days
3.) Demoted to HQ janitor
4.) Demoted to a receptionist in HQ
5.) Fired
6.) Cannot face the other competitor(s) in the same company unless the winner chooses to
7.) Forced to team with the winner in the Tag Team Division
8.) Winner books the loser's matches for as long as the winner chooses.
Leon modified the match as of May 27, 2012. The ring ropes and the turnbuckles will be made from fireproof materials, but will be engulfed. The fireproof materials will prevent any melting of the ring ropes.
No Limit Wrestling Federation and used a different version of the match, where the "Gods" are the NLWF owners. They select the special stipulation and the fate of the loser.
The match was tweaked again in April, 2018, when Lonewolf returned from hiatus, signed with Cardinal City Pro, and challenged Danielle Lopez . The Cell structure, barbed wire-wrapped ropes, and weapons all remain, but the flamethrowers that surround the ring were removed and instead the ring is surrounded by an old school steel bar cage. Lonewolf has also removed the old post-match stipulations and made it so each competitor much wager something of equal value to their opponent, such as masks, pink slips, or their entire careers. Lonewolf also changed the name to the Rapture Match, a nod to PCW's old Rapture weekly TV show, but CCP still refers to the match by its old name.
