Pro-Wrestling FURY is the #1 pro-wrestling organization in Japan. The promotion was founded in 2002 by Japan's top native star Kazuma Fujita to showcase his students at the FURY Dojo.
With Pro-Wrestling declining in Japan in recent years, FURY has slowly established itself as the premier brand in professional wrestling in Japan.
Outline[]
Wrestler Characteristics[]
Most of the wrestlers to compete in Pro-Wrestling FURY are graduates of Kazuma Fujita's FURY Dojo. The wrestlers that have gone through the dojo, and into Pro-Wrestling FURY have come in a variety of builds and styles. The only similar characteristic is that most students are recruited at a young age, usually ranging between 18-21. Once a wrestler debuts and begins his career in Pro-Wrestling FURY, they are usually fitted with a character or "gimmick."
All of FURY's wrestlers are trained to hone their charisma and microphone work to progress storylines and feuds.
Match Make-up[]
A typical show is made up of tags/six-man matches between the warring factions within FURY. Singles matches between the bigger stars are a larger deal due to their infrequency, and are usually only used for title matches, tournament matches, number-one contenders matches, or blow offs to a rivalry. While rare, FURY has also used multi-man free-for-alls such as 3WAY or 4WAY matches.
Supporters[]
The make-up of FURY's fan base is unique to any promotion in the world. The company was originally aimed towards fans of mainstream groups, due to the affiliation of Kazuma Fujita. However, the company carved out a niche among female fans due to some of the "ikemen" (good-looking) wrestlers, including Hidaka Kamon, Kotaro Ota, and Fumihiko Shirai.
FURY continues to build these two audiences, namely the hardcores due to the participation of some of Pro-Wrestling's most popular stars, including Kazuma Fujita, Mitsuharu Nogami, and Ryo Inoue.
Policy of Operations[]
FURY uses the traditional Japanese style of touring, running anywhere from 8-15 shows per month. Tours usually start at one-point of a region (Kanto, Tohoku, Kansai, etc.) before making their way across to the otherside.
FURY primarily tours the Kanto and Kansai regions of Japan, but in recent years have also established a presence in Western and North-Eastern Japan.
Aside from touring, FURY has established its "4-Point Plan" of running major shows in February (Kyoto,) May (Osaka,) August (Tokyo,) and Hyogo (December.)
In 2009, FURY began advancement overseas, running two shows in the United States, and a show in Taiwan.
Other Brands[]
- FURY MAX - Ganbatte!
A short-lived concept to showcase the younger stars of FURY; namely the 12th term members of the dojo. The concept had eight installments before eventually ending with the 12th term students graduating to the full roster.
- BREAK BLOW
A concept headed by FURY star Hiroaki Nakata. The project was created by Nakata to show the "true grace" of the pro-wrestling style. The concept immediately caught fire due to the inclusion of stars from other promotions under the BATTLE FUSION umbrella. Originally, BREAK BLOW was to consist of nothing but singles matches. However, this was amended in mid-2009 after Hiroaki Nakata announced a random-lottery tag tournament to be held in May 2009.
Exchange with Other Groups[]
Being a member of the BATTLE FUSION umbrella of Japanese groups, FURY has developed a strong working relationship among many of its members. In addition, the company has established strong bonds with promotions overseas.
- BURNING PARADISE
- After the formation of BURNING PARADISE, FURY sent Daisuke Iwata and Mastodon Fukuda to participate in their KING OF PARADISE Openweight title tournament. Fukuda continued participation in BURNING PARADISE, working with the group's "WILD BUNCH" faction. During FURY's rivalry with patriarch Kazuma Fujita and his "KAZUMA WORLD" project, BURNING PARADISE's Hisakatsu Okada served as a representative of "KAZUMA WORLD."
- FULL SPEED
- At the start of 2009, FURY began reaching out to the smaller groups of Japan, which included Tokyo-based independent FULL SPEED. FURY's 1/02/09 Korakuen Hall event featured a dark match pitting Masakatsu Irie & Takashi "TK" Komatsu against Darkness Kitty! & Abracadabra. Masakatsu Irie has also been featured in Hiroaki Nakata's BREAK BLOW brand.
- Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling
- Due to both sharing the Kansai area of Japan, FURY has formed a strong relationship with Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling, with the two regularly exchanging talent. Nansei's biggest star, GALLEON has become a semi-regular member of the roster, forming the popular "DREAM HEROES" team with Jet Jaguar.
- Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON
- Since the creation of both promotions in 2002, FURY and CRIMSON have had a strong working relationship that has included a long-standing exchange of talent. FURY's own Hachiro Yakuta was formally a member of CRIMSON for several years, before eventually joining FURY, while CRIMSON's Akahito Yamada and Rui Kuriyama are graduates of the FURY Dojo. There have also been many feuds between the wrestlers of both promotions, most famous being the rivalry between FURY's ATSUKA and CRIMSON's Millennium S.K.
In 2007, CRIMSON lent its full cooperation to FURY, who ran their first big-show in CRIMSON's home area of Iwate. To return the favor, FURY has lent CRIMSON aid in their advances into FURY's home area of Osaka.
- Pro-Wrestling DYNAMITE
- DYNAMITE's young star Takashi Suzuki took part in the 2008 installment of the J1-World League. DYNAMITE's top star Tatsumichi Akamatsu is also a regular participant in Hiroaki Nakata's "BREAK BLOW" concept.
- Superstar Pro-Wrestling
- FURY's Kotaro Ota and Fumihiko Shirai won their first set of titles in the promotion, beating "Team Elite." They would drop them about three months later to Humano Kaito and Nakata Ohmiori. In addition, Superstar Pro-Wrestling's young ace, Masahiro Sakamoto developed something of a rivalry against FURY's young hopeful Norihiro Akashi
Jason Ramsey trained Jet Jaguar would also "graduate" from Superstar Pro, before signing with Pro-Wrestling FURY.
- G-Shock Wrestling
- Los Angeles based independent group GSW has been FURY's American partner since FURY's creation in 2002. When FURY wrestlers are sent on training excursions, they usually end up spending several months on the G-Shock roster. Several of GSW's top stars were featured on FURY's first American show in 2009, including "The Greater" Marcus Dixon, and Christian Lockheart.
- LION'S ROAD
- Pro-Wrestling FURY formed a strong working relationship with Canadian-based LION'S ROAD Pro-Wrestling. FURY's Naoki "Mastodon" Fukuda worked several stints for the company, including making it to the finals of their "HERITAGE CLIMAX" tournament. Fukuda would later challenge for their "KING OF LION" Openweight title.
Many of LION'S ROAD's wrestlers have worked FURY's events in Japan, including Claudio Dastonli and "Third Degree" Bryan Harris.
- Wrestle Coast: Cascadia
- FURY began a working relationship with Pacific-Northwest based WC:C in in mid-2008, after then FURY President Hidehira Kajitani was invited to attend WC:C's 6/16/08 event. Then eventually led to TAKU and Mastodon Fukuda defending the F-MAX Tag Team titles on WC:C's first year anniversary show on 7/31. WC:C's top star Christopher "Bones" Graves became a part-time member of the FURY roster as a member of Akira Takayoshi's "NEW FORCE" faction.
TV Broadcast[]
FURY currently airs weekly on Japanese CS station "GAORA" in a 90-minute block.
FURY also regularly airs Pay-Per-View telecasts on Sky PerfecTV!
Special Match Types[]
- Naniwa-style Elimination Match
- Four vs. Four elimination match. The bout begins with one member of each team. From there on, another member will enter every 90 seconds, with entrances alternating back and forth. The team that gains the temporary one-man advantage is decided via pre-match coin flip. Wrestlers are eliminated via pinfall, submission, or being thrown over the top rope.
- Honshu-style Elimination Match
- Four vs. Four elimination match. One member of each team will start. After three minutes, a new wrestler will enter. The team that gets the next entrant is determined via coin flip. The match is essentially a team battle royal until the eighth and final participant enters the ring, where the match follows traditional elimination tag rules.
- 6WAY Mascara contra Caballera Cage Death Match
- A six-person free-for-all cage match. All six participants start the match. The first man to climb out of the cage is officially declared the winner. However, the match continues until there are just two men left. Pinfalls and submission are now legal, and the loser of the final two are forced to give up their mask, or shave their head.
- Hardcore Deathmatch
- An anything-goes match that allows weapon play. Falls count anywhere in the building.
- No Stop Deathmatch
- A special match arranged for Tetsuhisa NAKAI and Ryo Inoue after their controversial match on 12/21/2008. The match prohibits the referee, doctor, or any other outside individual from stopping the match, no matter how violent it becomes. The only way to win the match is via pinfall or submission.
Theme Songs[]
- "Fighting Fists" by Hi-Standard (2002 - 2003)
- Many of FURY's shows featured music from Japanese punk band "Hi-Standard." However, "Fighting Fists" was used for over twelve live broadcasts to become FURY's official theme song early on.
- "Growing Up" by Hi-Standard (2003 - 2005)
- FURY's fondness of Hi-Standard continued with adapting "Growing Up" as their official anthem going into 2003. The song symbolized the wrestler's maturity as fighters.
- "EMBRACE" (Original) (2005 - 2008)
- FURY's first original composition. The song had an upbeat tune to inspire hope and vitality. The song has become synonymous with FURY.
- "REBIRTH" (Original) (2009–Present)
- The score was created to symbolize FURY's evolution and progression towards becoming the strongest pro-wrestling promotion in Japan.
