Elite Class Championship Wrestling (2002 - 2006)[]
Beginnings and Feud with James Baker and Da Xtreme Dynasty[]
In late 2002, Phillip Mustang signed on to compete for then upstart company Elite Class Championship Wrestling where he debuted as a face and defeated Alex Brand in his debut match. Mustang also competed for the ECCW Hardcore Championship and won the title for the first time by defeating Kevin Styles for the title.
Soon after Mustang was put into contention for the ECCW Television Championship which was being held by Sean Jamison. On War Zone, Mustang defeated Jamison to become the second ever ECCW Television Champion and also keep his undefeated record in tact. However a couple of weeks later at Sacrifice, Mustang lost the ECCW Television Championship to Kevin Styles to end his undefeated streak.
Mustang also lost his Hardcore Title the next night on War Zone to The Afro Kid. At Revenge, not only did Mustang win back the ECCW Television Championship by defeating Styles and J.T. Banks in a triple threat match where he pinned Styles for the victory following the Mustang Express, but he also began his second reign as ECCW Hardcore Champion by defeating C-Low for the title. However the next night on War Zone, Mustang lost the Television championship to Mario Johnson. Mustang also lost the Hardcore Championship back to C-Low the next week on War Zone.
Following the loss of his ECCW Television Championship, Mustang was entered into contention for the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship and had a match for the title against reigning champion James Baker at Redemption which unfortunately for Mustang, he lost, but he impressed management just enough for him to be in the title picture for the long run. The next night however on War Zone, Baker and Mustang were forced to team up together for the ECCW World Tag Team Championships against Kevin and Efran Ortiz which they won the titles which gets Mustang wins his third championship in ECCW and Baker to be a double champion while they still feuded with each other. However the team was short lived for now as Baker and Mustang lost the titles back to Kevin and Efran Ortiz when Mustang mistakenly hit Baker with a clothesline.
The next week on War Zone, Mustang challenged Baker for the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship and defeated him by a school boy pin to begin his first reign as champion. Baker and Mustang then celebrated together, but once Mustang was done celebrating, Baker attacked him from behind and laid Mustang out by hitting him with the Brainbuster on the steel steps to start a rivalry that spanned for a year and a half.
Mustang returned at Breakdown and lost the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship back to Baker after tapping out to Baker's new move Tha Notorious Clutch. It took Mustang a couple of pay per views to finally gain back his championship, but Mustang defeated Baker at Summer Smash to begin his second reign as ECCW World Heavyweight Champion. The following pay per view Bloody Gory, Mustang lost the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship back to Baker following interference from former rivals Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks. Mustang was injured and had to be on the sidelines for a while due to a broken ankle.
At The Rumble, Mustang returned to ECCW and interfered in the James Baker vs Alex Brand match up where Mustang costed Baker the match and the title by hitting Baker with the title belt to ensure a victory for Alex Brand. At Starstruck, Mustang defeated Alex Brand and James Baker in a triple threat match up to begin his third reign as champion by pinning Baker to win the match. However a few weeks later on War Zone, Baker defeated Mustang in a ladder match following interference from Da Xtreme Dynasty.
From then Baker and Mustang resumed their rivalry and for several months they competed against each other in numerous matches like a Dog Collar match, a First Blood match, a TLC Match, a Hangman's Horror match and a Steel Cage Match where Baker won every match except the Steel Cage match which Mustang defeated Baker to regain the ECCW World Heavyweight Title at Bloody Glory. The next night on War Zone, Baker challenged Mustang to defend the title one last time against him at ECCW's Night Of Champions in a match he calls Da Xtreme Death Match which Mustang accepted the match. Over the next several weeks, Baker and Mustang played a game of one upping each other as both of them defeated the opponents that the other set up in front of them. At Night Of Champions, Mustang was defeated by Baker in Da Xtreme Deathmatch to lose the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship for the final time. After the match, Baker and Mustang showed a sign of respect for each other by shaking hands and ending their long and storied rivalry.
Post James Baker/Phillip Mustang feud, Heel Turn, reforming tag team with James Baker and hiatus.[]
Soon after his feud with James Baker ended, Mustang then moved onto a feud with Sean Jamison to try to get back into the ECCW World Heavyweight Championship picture, but unfortunately for Mustang he couldn't defeat Jamison at Sacrifice to become the number one contender for the title. Following Sacrifice,
Mustang then turned into a tweener as he started to show some unusual heel traits and started to go on a losing streak by getting defeated by stars like Grandmaster Steve, C-Low, The Afro Kid and even ECCW Mega Jobber Chad Smith.
The night after Redemption, Mustang turned into a heel for the first time in his career by siding with former rival James Baker and helping him beat down Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks. Following that, Baker and Mustang reformed their tag team annd called themselves The Driveby Express and started a feud with Styles and Banks for the ECCW World Tag Team Championships. Baker and Mustang won two more tag team championships together by defeating Styles and Banks on 2 separate occasions.
Unfortunately for Baker and Mustang. They had to vacate the ECCW World Tag Team Championship due to ECCW going out of business and The Driveby Express was once again split up. Mustang decided to take a hiatus from wrestling altogether following ECCW going out of business so he can spend more time with his wife and kids and also re-evaluate some things in his life.
American Wrestling Federation (2009)[]
After a three year hiatus from professional wrestling, Phillip Mustang has indeed decided to return to wrestling after having a lengthy talk to AWF owner and former Olympic Gold Medalist Tommy Bishop. Mustang will be accompanied by Malik Jones who is also the agent for Mustang's former rival and former tag team partner James Baker and Mustang's sister Danielle Lopez.
Mustang made his AWF debut at Monday Night Madness on August 31 under his face gimmick against former MMA Fighter Izzak Kroll which he came up just short in his return match as the loss against Kroll also knocked him out of the tournament to crown the first ever AWF Universal Champion. On the next edition of Monday Night Madness, Mustang competed in a ten man battle royal to compete for a shot at the AWF North American Championship which he came up short of surviving that match. Mustang recently competed at the ECCW Reunion show and defeated Terry Jones with the Mustang Express.
Mustang has had his character change a bit as he now has his real life Christian beliefs incorporated into his character, but he still uses the Linkin Park song "In The End" as his theme music. On the September 14th edition of Madness, Mustang teamed up with Ryan Magnus to take on Calypso and Eddie Pearl which Mustang and Magnus won due to Calypso's manager Ted McMahon hitting Pearl with a cowboy boot and Magnus turning on Mustang during the match.
On September 20, Mustang went one on one with Ryan Magnus at AWF's first ever pay per view Viva Las Vegas, Mustang lost to Magnus due to Magnus using the ropes for an unfair advantage. On the September 28th edition of Madness, Mustang went one on one with newcomer "The Tahitian Terror" Londo Maeliki where Mustang defeated Maeliki with the Mustang-Plex. On the October 5th edition of Madness, Mustang went one on one with Ripper and was successful as he pinned Ripper following The Mustang Express.
On the October 12th edition of Madness, Mustang went one on one with newcomer Jack Marshall, but unfortunately he lost to Marshall via rollup. After the match up, the lights then went out of the arena and when they came back, Mustang disappeared and was nowhere to be found. Later that same day after Madness ended, Mustang for some unknown reason was released from his AWF contract. It is unknown whether or not Mustang will join the CWF with his brother in-law James Baker, join another wrestling company or go back into retirement. It's also unknown at this time whether the friendship between Bishop and Mustang was severed or whether they're still friends.
Classic Wrestling Federation (2009)[]
Early Appearances[]
Mustang first became involved with the CWF when he was seen in a promo with his former rival and former tag team partner James Baker after Baker had found him in a grocery store. Later on in the promo both Baker and Mustang then fought off Baker's former friends by hitting them with their signature double team moves that they used while they were teaming up with each other as The Driveby Express.
In the next promo that Baker did, it was revealed that Mustang was the long lost older brother of Baker's wife Danielle Lopez which also made the former rivals in-laws. Mustang's next appearance for the CWF was when he called Baker up by phone to tell him about his release from the AWF. It's unknown at this time whether these appearances will lead to a full-time contract or whether it's just for motivational purposes.
Joining the Dynasty and Burying the Hatchet with Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks[]
Mustang appeared for CWF again as he was in yet another James Baker promo this time discussing to Baker on how he was fired from the AWF. Mustang has been contacted to be one of the motivational pieces for his brother Enrique Lopez. In turn Mustang has been recently named a member of former rival group Da Xtreme Dynasty.
On a recent promo, Mustang was seen with all of the members of Da Xtreme Dynasty. In the promo, Mustang squashed his differences with both Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks due to what Da Xtreme Dynasty did to Mustang back in ECCW. Later on in the promo, Mustang along with the rest of Da Xtreme Dynasty vandalized and assaulted AWF Owner/former friend of Mustang's in Tommy Bishop by dumping fermented Pickled Herring all over Bishop's house and it ended with Mustang kicking Bishop in the skull with a Big Boot.
The crew then went to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and vandalized Terry Richards' house by dumping fermented Pickled Herring on the house, on Richards' girlfriend Mariana and onto Richards himself. J.T. Banks got arrested, so they returned to Richards' house for revenge. The crew then fought with the Richards crew and unfortunately lost the battle when Terry's mysterious protector, The Mischievous One, took out everybody and saved the Richards crew from being furtherly brutalized.
YouTube Championship Wrestling (2010)[]
Debut[]
After long talks with his sister Danielle and Terrell Ryder, Mustang signed a contract with the newly formed YouTube Championship Wrestling on April 22, 2010. At Struggle for Power, Mustang made his YCW debut as a Face and he competed in a match against developmental talent Thomas Bisping, which he won with the Mustang-Plex. He also competed in the thirteen-Person Timed Battle Royal to crown the first ever YCW World Heavyweight Champion and he made it into the final two, but was eliminated by Eric Redgate. He made his Monday Night Wrestling on YouTube debut as he went one on one against John Allister for the YCW Broadcast Championship and despite a great effort, he lost the match. Later on that night, Phillip saved Danielle from further harm and together they defeated The Dark Scorpions to win the YCW World Tag Team Championship. The title win marks Danielle's first ever championship win and it's marks Phillip's fourth ever tag team championship (his previous three were with Danielle's husband James Baker).
The Lopez Dynasty, YCW World Tag Team Championship reign and retirement[]
At Wrestle Extravaganza I, The Lopez Dynasty defended their titles against The Dark Scorpions and they successfully won when Mustang pinned Scythe, following the Mexican Demolition. On the June 21st edition of Monday Night Wrestling, The Lopez Dynasty and a mystery partner went go up against all three members of Team Baller in a six person tag team match. They picked C-Low as their partner and they defeated Team Baller by disqualification. On the June 28th edition of Monday Night Wrestling, Mustang went one on one against Mr. Baller in a Barbed Wire Ropes Match, but lost when Team Baller and Saints Army attacked Mustang five on one. Danielle and Da Xtreme Dynasty came in for the save, but they were also picked apart. Things didn't get any better until Josh Thomas came in and cleaned house and fight with his twin brother Aaron.
At Battle Finale, Phillip teamed with Danielle and defended their World Tag Team Titles against fellow Da Xtreme Dynasty stablemates Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks, Team Baller and The Dark Scorpions in a four way tag team match, but they lost the titles when Styles unknowingly pinned Mustang following interference from two masked men. Later on in the night, Mustang competed in a triple threat match against Mr. Baller and Orlando Cruz for the YCW World Heavyweight Championship and lost as Baller pinned Cruz, despite Phillip having the match won. Phillip announced his retirement after the match and saluted the fans one final time to close his career. As he turned around, Mr. Baller hit him in the head with the World Title belt as YCW ended it's run.
Sparadic Appearances[]
On the June 18th edition of PCW's Saturday Night Rapture, Danielle and Phillip reformed The Lopez Dynasty for one night only as they faced off against Kilo Perez and Eric Robinson in a tag team match. Danielle and Phillip got the win when Danielle hit Kilo with Potential Brain Damage. Afterwards, all four members of The Revolution attacked them until Kevin Styles and J.T. Banks came out and made the save. At PCW's final event Cataclysm (2011), Phillip will be in the corner of Danielle as she defends the PCW Broadcast Championship against Phillip's fellow ECCW alumnus, Kilo Perez.
Personal life[]
Phillip Lopez was born in Tijuana, Mexico to his parents Juan Lopez and Gloria Lopez where he was the first born out of five children (his brother Jose Lopez was brutally murdered by three unknown men in Miami, Florida days before Phillip's world title defense at ECCW Night of Champions 2004).
