OWA Stairway To Stardom V was a professional wrestling pay-per-view to be presented by Online Wrestling Alliance. The show is featured as being the biggest show of the OWA calender. It was the fifth Stairway To Stardom event to take place, and the third to take place under the OWA name.
The event is took place on July 27, 2014 at AAMI Park in Melbourne, Australia, and had several celebrities in attendance. The official theme song for the event was "Brave New World" by Iron Maiden, with "Megalomaniac" by Incubus and "Keep the Faith" by Bon Jovi serving as secondary themes.
Background[]
The main event featured OWA Champion Victor Huntley defending the championship against Zack Richards. Richards won the opportunity to face Huntley for the title by defeating Moses Webster in the final match of the 2014 King Of The World Tournament at Redemption. Also, a match was contested for OWA's other world championship, with World Heavyweight Champion Cash Morgan defending his championship against a Jeff Palmer, who won the opportunity after defeating Moses Webster on an episode of Adamantium.
Another high-profile match heading into the event was The Thundermaker facing off against Trip Johnson. In a plot that was unravelled on the July 11 edition of Adamantium, Stu E. Dangerously (manager of both Thundermaker and Cash Morgan) organised for Johnson to be taken out of the equation to allow his clients to climb the ranks of OWA -- Dangerously had long since believed that Johnson was purposely holding them back, and needed to be taken out of power. He had the Chairman kidnapped and held prisoner, whilst sending fake photographs of Johnson's alleged suicide scene to the media, which was later discovered to be a cadaver. Johnson returned and demanded vengeance, and was given a match against Thundermaker by his daughter Britta, who inherited his power following his alleged death.
Also, Helena Bertinelli had her first title defense since becoming Women's Champion, defending against the woman she won the title from, Blister. Blister had successfully retained her title against Jerri Brekke and demanded another challenge, prompting the debuting Bertinelli to arrive and score an upset victory to become the champion.
Event[]
The event drew impressive numbers opposed to the previous year's event, with 10,246 fans attending. Amongst them were several celebrity guests and former OWA talents. In addition to attending the show, American rock band Incubus performed twice at the event -- they performed the secondary theme "Megalomaniac", and also played "Light Grenades" during Jeff Palmer's entrance.
The show followed traditions set up in previous years, such as the winner of the King Of The World Tournament earning a main event title match, and random teams being thrown together for an all-out Battle Royal to determine the World Tag Team Championship (although in previous years, neither the OWA Championship or World Tag Team Championship were contested at Stairway To Stardom). In addition, the Battle Royal took place during the show as opposed to before the show.
