OWA Effigy (2013) was an event hosted by Online Wrestling Alliance that took place on April 7, 2013.
The event's name was derived from the major running storyline in the company, originally centered around The Militia, and then solely longest reigning OWA World Heavyweight Champion Zack Richards. It refers to the entire roster's hatred of the former champion, and their desire to see him "burn in effigy".
The official theme song for the event was "More Than Meets The Eye" by Testament.
Background[]
The main rivalry going into the event was originally between OWA World Heavyweight Champion Craig Anderson and the man he defeated for the title, Zack Richards. But when the former champion announced to the press that he would be taking a hiatus from wrestling, the developing feud between Angel and Preston Scott was pushed forward. With Tierney determined to regain power within OWA and Scott out for revenge on the man who almost ended his career, Craig Anderson quickly found himself a marked man.
Another major rivalry heading into the event was between OWA European Champion Jeff Palmer and his challenger Jamo. Upon his return to OWA, Jamo assaulted Palmer's friend and partner Alex West, the attack causing a lingering injury. Following a match against Ricky Maine, Palmer was almost attacked by Jamo, but Maine chased him off before any major damage was done. During a tag team match the following week, Jamo once again administered a post-match attack on West, which Palmer attempted to stop. Jamo powerbombed the European Champion through the announce desk as a result, making a major statement.
Following a vicious attack at the hand of her ex-boyfriend, Abigail Jade was forced to relinquish the OWA Intercontinental Championship due to multiple serious injuries. In a press conference, OWA Owner Trip Johnson announced that the championship would remain vacant until Effigy, where an Open Ladder Match would be held to determine the new champion.
Aftermath[]
Craig Anderson would go on to be attacked by the new European Champion Jamo, who would declare war on the World Heavyweight Champion. This lead to a confrontation between the two at OWA Amicable Treason (2013). Julio Zapien suffered a broken neck as a result of Kenzo Katana's piledriver, which required surgery and would put the former bodyguard on the shelf indefinitely.
Jeff Palmer, who suffered massive blood loss during his match with Jamo, was kept out of action for a few weeks after the event.
A feud was sparked between new Intercontinental Champion Joey Tierney and the man he narrowly defeated for the vacant title, Preston Scott. Scott refereed a match with Tierney facing Latelle in the weeks leading up to their title match at Amicable Treason.
The week following Effigy, Sudden Impact were granted a Tag Team Championship Match during and episode of OWA. When Zack Richards failed to show up, Anderson elected to defend the titles on his own, and would end up being defeated. This marked the first professional wrestling championship in the careers of Alex Johnson and Chris Daniels.
