King of the World is a professional wrestling single-elimination tournament held by OWA. The tournament was held in 2007, 2008, 2009 and took a three-year hiatus until its return in 2012.
In 2013, owner Trip Johnson announced the return of the tournament. But unlike the previous year, the winner of the 2013 King of the World Tournament will receive a World Heavyweight Championship Match at OWA Stairway To Stardom IV.
The tournament has been held a total of six times so far.
Concept[]
King of the World is a single-elimination tournament, normally between 8-16 superstars. From 2007 - 2012, the winner of the tournament was guaranteed a world heavyweight championship match, anytime, anywhere until the ending of the next King of the World tournament. So far, all of the previous winners have gone on to become the world heavyweight champion.
2007[]
The tournament was first brought into place by Angel in THBW. The 2007 tournament featured 8 superstars, with the finals being held in December, a month before Stairway to Stardom, on a special live show. The first tournament winner was The Phenomnal GMC, who defeated Joey Tierney in the finals.
