Jovana Sonja Slater (born February 18, 1989) is a Serbian-American professional wrestling interviewer, ring announcer, and model currently signed to Omega Wrestling Alliance, where she appears as the backstage correspondent on the company's Odyssey brand.
Early Life[]
Slater was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (in what is now simply Serbia). Her Serbian mother, Milica (nee Dragomir), was a librarian and aspiring model. Her American-born father, James Slater, was living in the country while teaching English to Serbian children. The family left the country in early 1992, fleeing the effects of the worsening Yugoslav Wars, settling in her father's native Huntington, New York, on Long Island. Slater graduated from Huntington High School in 2007. She then went on to attend Stony Brook University, graduating in 2011 with a degree in marketing.
Professional Wrestling Career[]
Gotham Wrestling League (2012 - 2018)[]
Slater moved to New York City in early 2012 to take a job at a public relations firm in Tribeca. While living there, she began attending shows put on by a Manhattan-based independent promotion, Gotham Wrestling League. The head promoter, eventually recognizing her as a regular at events, asked Slater if the promotion could use her likeness on promotional material, and this turned out to be Slater's first foray into modeling. For about a year, she modeled merchandise on the promotion's website and had her likeness appear on advertising material before becoming GWL's ring announcer in early 2013. She remained with the promotion through mid-2018, when she was approached by OWA about signing a contract.
Omega Wrestling Alliance (2018 - present)[]
Odyssey (2018 - present)[]
Slater signed a contract with Philadelphia-based Omega Wrestling Alliance in August 2018. She made her on-screen debut on the premiere September 1 edition of Odyssey as the brand's backstage interviewer.
Personal Life[]
Slater currently resides in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood. She is good friends with Viola DeMarco, Julianna DeMarco, Elle Halen, Ashley Walker, and Gia Cervantes. She is bilingual, speaking Serbo-Croatian in addition to English. Slater is an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Islanders.
