Jessica Elaine Carlton (born September 19, 1991) is an Australian professional wrestling referee currently signed to Elite Answers Wrestling under the name Jesse Carlton. In December 2017, Carlton made history when she was assigned to the Empire brand as the promotion's first full-time female referee.
Early Life[]
Carlton was born in Adelaide, Australia and initially raised in the nearby suburb of Elizabeth. She is the second and youngest child of Thomas Carlton, an aircraft mechanic, and Meredith Carlton (nee Sherwood), a jewelry designer. She and her brother Reid (born 1984) are exceptionally close. In the summer of 2001, Reid was severely injured in a car accident, after which he was initially left with memory loss and had to regain the ability to walk. The family then moved to the Brisbane area to near treatment centers in the area, settling in the suburb of Northgate. She went on to attend Northgate State School, where she played rugby.
Professional Wrestling Career[]
Brisbane Wrestling Club (2013 - 2016)[]
Upon moving to the area, Carlton began attending shows put on by a local independent promotion, Brisbane Wrestling Club (BWC), which was also based out of Northgate. By 2013, the promotion had a working relationship with Brisbane Pro Wrestling Academy, which had recently opened and was run by Keelan. Carlton approached him backstage at a BWC show and informed him that she was interested in training to become a referee, and she began training at the school in October 2013. She began officiating at BWC shows in January 2014 and debuted under the name Jesse Carlton. She remained with the promotion until June 2017, at which point she departed to sign an EAW contract.
Elite Answers Wrestling (2017 - present)[]
Carlton was approached by EAW about signing in mid-2017. In July, it was revealed that she was undergoing medical tests and had begun the process necessary to obtain the proper documentation to live and work in the United States. She reported to the EAW Performance Center in November. Still retaining her real name, Carlton made her debut as a member of the Empire roster on December 9 at Bloodletter as the official of the main event between Aria Jaxon and Stephanie Matsuda.
Personal Life[]
Carlton currently resides in Newark, New Jersey.
