Hudson River Wrestling, abbreviated as HRW, is an e-federation formed by Kevin C, and Mikey Barclay in January 2007. Based on the style of the now-defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling and the currently active Ring of Honor real-world federations, HRW has become one of the more popular feds within the World Wrestling Alliance interfed community.

History of HRW[]

In late 2006, Kevin and Mikey both handled in the now-defunct theSTAGE promotion, run by Chris Gipson, as Riley Whisper and Tyson DeBough, respectively. Dissatisfied with their positions, and their lack of creative control, they decided that they wished to try running a fed by themselves, and banded together with a number of other handlers, including Methodical and Eric Dane. Together, the four men came up with the basic premise for HRW.

Being the most driven to actually write, and the least experienced in the ways of fedheading, Kevin began to do the actual work of putting the fed together, including getting forums, making an initial card, and a roster of non-player character, non-handled characters to populate the fed until people would start joining the fed.

Swiftly, HRW joined a fledgling interfed, the Alliance of Wrestling Promotions, and began to gain handlers from around the e-fedding scene. Cards were released on a steady basis, although Mikey, Justin, and Methodical did not continue assisting in the work of the company. Now the sole fedhead, Kevin took it upon himself to book, write, and promote HRW, with help from other people as they came through the company.

However, before too long, the HRW quit the AWP, to join the World Wrestling Alliance, and began to gain more and more handlers. It was around this time that the first of the HRW's titles were debuted, the Manhattan Island Championship.

The MI title, as it became known, was a special title, in that it would always be defended under stipulation rules. At each title defense, the current champion would be given three choices, which could range from 200 Lighttube Deathmatches, to Ladder Matches, to Cereal Killer "deathmatches", where the only foreign object allowed would be boxes of breakfast cereal.

The first Manhattan Island Champion was determined via a Gauntlet Match, in which 6 wrestlers competed in a string of "Winner stays, loser leaves" matches, with the final survivor being the first Manhattan Island Champion. The first champion crowned would be the masked wrestler Cobra.

While the MI Title was obviously unique, and as it was introduced first, considered the "top title" of the company for a time. However, the true belt that was considered the top title, the Hudson Valley Championship existed, but was not given out yet.

During this period, the top wrestler in the company was determined simply by the Top Ten Ranking System. Perennial favorites to the list were Jimmy Riley, Jacobias Discordia, and Cobra, among others like Brian Fisher, The Confederacy, and many more.

HRW seemed to catch fire, picking up wrestler after wrestling, putting out card after card. A stable was formed and fizzled, the main event scene quickly established itself, and eventually, the HRW declared its first Hudson Valley Champion. In a Triple Threat match with The Confederacy and Jimmy Riley, Jacobias Discordia stretched the match to 40 minutes, putting on one of the best matches to date in HRW history, in what was effectively a two-on-one. However, Discordia indeed took the loss. But, in a strange move, the new owner of the company, Alice Shadowcross, came to the ring, title belt in tow, and handed it to Discordia, proclaiming that he had shown the heart she wanted in a champion, much to Jimmy Riley's ire. Riley slapped Shadowcross, and was suspended from HRW proceedings until further notice.

HRW continued along, with Riley interfering and causing mayhem from the crowds, until HRW staged its grandest event to date, a tradition within the WWA, the 2007 King of the Deathmatch Tournament, entitled the "Oh God Why" Tournament. Set over two shows, "Free Lance" and "Paper View", the KotDM Tournament was to crown the 2007 King of the Deathmatches, give the winner a $2000 cash prize, and name the holder of the newest HRW "title", the Hudson River Wrestling Nailbat.

Management[]

  • Alice Shadowcross- After her brother, Roger Shadowcross, opened HRW in a fit of manic inspiration, he passed it on to his sister, the smarter businesswoman, and proceeded to go back to his alcohol-fueled stupor. Taking the reins of a wrestling company for the first time, Alice decided that she needed help, and so, hired Finn McCullough, an old family friend and a retired wrestler, to be the booker, and talent liaison, while Alice held the position of CEO, and financial chief.
    • Alice is a petite Gothic-type, drawn to wearing black clothes, often of a velvet fabric, and listening to same type of music. Her theme song is The Night, by Voltaire. She has no experience wrestling, and knows little about the actual business, but is a fine financial organizer.

  • Finn McCullough- A former professional wrestler, the Irish-born Hoboken dweller was hired by Alice to handle all of the booking, the interactions between wrestlers, the hiring of new talent, and talent scouting. Having retired from wrestling in Ireland AND New York City, Finn thought he was out of the business, and would be a simple bartender until he moved on to something else, until he was tapped for HRW. He enjoyed modest success, winning the Shamrock Title in the Ireland Classic Wrestling Foundation in 1994.
    • Finn is a burly, redheaded Irishman, handsome and muscular, still in wrestling shape. He is fully capable of enforcing his laws himself, and is intimidated by few. Dual-wielding a shillelagh and a kendo stick, Finn has had few problems keeping his talent "in check". Finn's entrance theme is Star of the County Down, by the Tartan Terrors.

  • Mark Hazen- The play-by-play commentary man for HRW's public access cable show, and all HRW DVD releases, Hazen was once a wrestler as well. However, in late 1999, Hazen was in an auto accident that removed his right arm and retired him from the business. A former cruiserweight sensation, Hazen could fly with the best, but with his confidence shattered by the accident, Hazen never could step back in the ring, unless he had a microphone in hand.
    • Mark is a somewhat handsome man, but has been obviously letting himself go. Married since 1998, with 1 child, Mark has been doing well for himself, running a used car lot. However, the lust to come back to the world of wrestling, and his friendship with Finn brought him back. Mark's entrance theme is Average Man by the Reel Big Fish.
  • Electra Bowie- The color commentator for HRW's public access cable show, and all HRW DVD releases, Bowie was a female wrestler from 1990 to 1999, when she retired to enjoy a private life. Never one for injury, Electra is considered a friendly, bubbly type for the most part, and is shockingly beautiful. However, in her role as color commentator, Electra favors those who cheat to win, use dirty tactics, and generally act like bad guys.
    • Electra comes to the ring to Don't Worry, Be Happy, by Bobby McFerrin.
