In May of 1987, after seeing the increase in the fanbase for wrestling coming from the arrival of the World Wrestling Federation on the public stage, 'Wildside' Bill Richmond opened his own promotion that did not adhere to the tried and true territory system. Good Ol' Championship Wrestling was born.
GoCW catered heavily to the classic southern tradition of wrestling, with it's gentlemanly faces and its over the top heels. Richmond would run one show a quarter throughout the 1980s. In February of 1990, GoCW got its first taste of television with its late night public access show, Round One. The show lasted until August of 1994, running a 30 minute episode twice monthly during that time period.
This point became a very difficult time for GoCW and they fell back to running 1 to 2 shows a year from 1995 to 1998, and then Richmond sold the company in mid 1999.
