The Women's Championship is Global Extreme Wrestling's title competed for exclusively by female competitors. It was active continuously between May 2007 and November 2008 but is currently inactive. The championship was vacated for the final time following the departure of champion Lynn Eberlee. Seven different individuals are currently recognised as former Women's Champions by GEW.
History[]
The Women's Championship had been mooted in creative meetings for some time prior to its debut, with the idea of introducing it once there were enough women in GEW to make a competitive field. During the promotion's boom in late 2006 and early 2007 enough new female wrestlers joined and the match to crown the inaugural GEW Women's Champion was held at Deadly Game 2007 between Daffney and Riley Frost. Frost won the match, but would be released from GEW two months later under as-yet undisclosed circumstances, leaving the title vacant. At Open Season 2007 Kirsten won a five-woman elimination match, personally eliminating Victoria, Velvet Grey and Skiddalz, the only other elimination being Grey eliminating Krissy Delight. Kirsten continued to dominate the division, despite briefly losing the championship to Melissa Michaels at Collision Course 2007, until the point when there were no more serious competitors as Sabrina Bryce was removed from contention after no-showing several events, Michaels and Becky Orton were both out due to pregnancy, and Velvet Grey was injured in a hiking incident. Grey later returned and challenged Kirsten for the championship, winning the title at Auld Land Syne 2008. She would hold this title until the Sunday Night Chaos broadcast following Bloodbath 2008 when she was defeated for it by Reese Black. Melissa's cousin Brooke Michaels would go on to win the championship from Black in a huge upset, but she left the company soon after when Melissa and Xavier Michaels also left. A five-way championship scramble match was held for the vacant title which was won by Lynn Eberlee. Reese Black and Gabriella both had interim reigns. Kelly Hall and Lauren McCarthy were the other two competitors, the latter scoring a submission victory on Hall one second after the time limit ran out. Both Eberlee and McCarthy would leave the company before their feud could be settled, however, and the championship was indefinitely suspended.
