Mount Vesuvius is a match that combines elements of the Royal Rumble, Hell in a Cell, and Triple Cage match types. The Mount Vesuvius match was the brain child of FMW owners Jason Roy (Jaro) and Robb Clarke (O'Rion). While some aspects of the match can be attributed to other individuals (cYnical's burning ropes), the overall idea for the match belongs to Roy and Clarke.
The cage structure used for the Mount Vesuvius match is composed of three cages stacked on top of each other. The first is a Hell in a Cell cage. The second is a steel cage with turnbuckles and ring ropes on top. A smaller third cage is on top, which on top of the pillar is the Mount Vesuvius torch.

The match is contested by thirty wrestlers, two beginning the match in the first ring. After two minutes, another participant enters the match. This continues until fifteen participants have entered the ring. Wrestlers can't be eliminated until all have entered. After the fifteenth entrant has entered, a second cage is lowered. The second cage is a regular steel cage where the cage has a roof with turnbuckles and ring ropes placed inside. After the thirtieth and final superstar has entered, the third cage and the Mount Vesuvius torch are brought into play. The third cage, unlike the second steel cage, has no door, ring ropes, or turnbuckles. However, in the center of the cage, is a ten foot pillar. On top of the pillar is the coveted Mount Vesuvius torch. Before someone can grab the torch and win the match, the competitor must switch the gas tap on to ignite the torch.
The winner of Mount Vesuvius receives a Full Metal Championship title shot in the main event of that year's Ultimatum, FMW's premiere pay-per-view event. In 2007, Drew Michaels became the first man to win Mount Vesuvius. He later go on to win the title at Ultimatum.
