Odyssey was a professional wrestling free-per-view (FPV) event promoted by EAW for their Showdown brand. The event took place on May 23, 2020 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
Production[]
Background[]
The event was originally slated to take place in Seoul, South Korea as a part of EAW's annual Asia tour. It was later relocated due to the COVID-19 crisis impacting the world by Gawd Contract holder Chris Elite. In response to EAW's lack of action regarding the pandemic, he took matters into his own hands in a Fight Grid announcement where he canceled EAW's Asia tour. Gateway to Glory, Odyssey, & Fighting Spirit were all moved to some of the least at-risk states where they would be held inside of empty arenas. Following these cancellations and relocations, Chris Elite would sponsor each event through his Bozo Victims Unit LLC.
Storylines[]
Mr. DEDEDE vs. Chris Elite[]
Mr. DEDEDE secured the Answers World Championship at the Grand Rampage event by leveling Cameron Ella Ava with a flaming version of his Equalizer weapon. On the April 25 Showdown, DEDEDE threw a celebratory extravaganza in the EAW Performance Center accompanied by his wife, Kassidy Heart, and others. Shaker Jones, of Chris Elite's Bozo Victims Unit, interrupted this celebration to challenge DEDEDE to an Answers World Championship match, in which DEDEDE retained via interference from Ryan Wilson and Kassidy Heart. The following week, DEDEDE intended to burn Chris Elite's Gawd Contract following the news that the May 2020 Asia tour would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however HRDO intervened informing him that the board had already vetoed DEDEDE's decision - citing legal conflicts - and urged DEDEDE to settle his issues with Chris Elite ''by combat.'' On the May 9 Showdown the match between DEDEDE and Elite was negotiated in a heated war of words, with the stipulations becoming "Title vs Gawd Contract"; if DEDEDE loses, Chris Elite becomes Answers World Champion, and if Chris Elite loses, he is officially stripped of the Gawd Contract.
No Way Out Match[]
Jamie O'Hara opened the April 25 Showdown after several months away via a knee injury sustained at a live event after Under Siege. He took the time to announce his wife Cameron Ella Ava's inability to continue as an in-ring wrestler following the gruesome injuries she sustained at Grand Rampage. O'Hara would also reveal Cameron's pregnancy, citing the ultrasound that had shown she was already six weeks pregnant. He would swear revenge on DEDEDE for ultimately being the reason why his wife could no longer compete, promising "a war unlike anything anyone has seen before." The following Showdown, General Manager Ryan Wilson announced the No Way Out 6-person match to determine who would compete for the Answers World Championship at Pain for Pride. Myles and The Ring Master were immediately announced for participation in the match, due to earning victories on the prior edition of Showdown. Ahren Fournier and Lance Blackfyre approached Wilson later that night pining for an opportunity into the match, prompting Wilson to book the two against each other for the next week's Showdown. Candice Blair also approached Wilson, asking for an opportunity to avenge her sister's demise by meeting DEDEDE at Pain for Pride. Wilson booked Blair in a match against himself for the next week. In the main event of the show, Jamie O'Hara successfully knocked off Shaker Jones to earn his way into the NWO match. The May 9 Showdown had Ahren Fournier and Lance Blackfyre both qualify for the NWO match following a double count out result in their match. Candice Blair would meet backstage with Jamie O'Hara, where the two discussed each other's odds at being able to avenge Cameron should they respectively win the NWO. In the main event, Blair managed to defeat Wilson to secure her spot in the No Way Out match. Thus leaving a field of Myles, The Ring Master, Jamie O'Hara, Lance Blackfyre, Candice Blair and Ahren Fournier.
Minerva vs. Kasey Kaos[]
On the Dynasty following Grand Rampage, StarrStan called Kasey Kaos into his office to personally congratulate her for a stand-out performance in the Grand Rampage match. He would also reward her with a shot at the Universal Women's Championship at Odyssey. The champion, Minerva, managed to retain her title against Raven Roberts via a dusty finish. The nature of this result was addressed by General Manager Wilson at the April 25 edition of Showdown. He would confront the referee for that match in his office, and Minerva happened to walk in on the conversation and remained unapologetic for her in-ring tactics. Wilson commended the champion for keeping the title on Showdown, and he would also inform her of her next challenger, up-and-comer Kasey Kaos. The May 1 Dynasty featured an episode of Hot Takes With Ronan Malosi featuring Kasey Kaos as a guest star. The segment ended with Minerva taking out the host, Malosi, and flaunting her title in Kaos' face. Kaos would respond with a "tick tock" expression, signaling Minerva's time being up. Minerva expounded upon her Dynasty appearance on the May 2 Showdown, promising that Kaos would not be holding her title soon, and restating her intention of taking the UWC to Pain for Pride. After a winning performance on the May 9 Showdown against MITSUBACHI, Minerva was confronted by her challenger Kasey Kaos, who would leave the champion with a warning: "your reign ends next week."
