EAW 2K21 is an upcoming professional wrestling video game developed in a collaboration between Yuke's and Visual Concepts, and published by 2K Sports. It is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2020 worldwide for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Microsoft, Windows , Nintendo Switch , Steam, and Epic Game Store. It is the sixth game in the EAW game series (fifth under 2K banner), and a follow-up to EAW 2K19.
Marketing[]
Following a one year hiatus as EAW opted not to release a 2K20 game a year ago, rumors began to circulate regarding the franchise's return this year. The cover of EAW 2K21 featuring “The Last Messiah” Drake King was revealed during Bloodsport and a later stream by the EAW 2K development team revealed some of the features we will see in the upcoming game. The reveal stream has effectively replaced the traditional press event that was not possible to set up this year due to the COVID-19 emergency situation. Fight Grid was able to attend the Live Stream and has since been actively keeping the public up to date with all the information regarding the upcoming release.
Gameplay[]
During Voltage’s Free Per View, Bloodsport, the cover of EAW 2K21 was announced as it will feature Voltage Elitist Drake King. Following the reveal of EAW 2K21, patch notes were provided by the game developers themselves in the following days as more and more details were announced. EAW 2K21 is set to feature updated versions of the iconic EAW Arenas of its flagship shows Dynasty, Showdown and Voltage. Arenas were not the only thing that got updated though, as the Championship titles themselves were reworked from the ground up following their new designs that were introduced earlier this year.
Game modes[]
Similarly to EAW 2K19, EAW 2K21 will also feature a Legend Edition. This time around though it won’t have Jamie O’Hara as the central protagonist rather Heart Break Boy who is starring in the cover of this special edition. The Legend Edition is going to feature an exclusive story mode that will cover the highlights of his career in an extensive series of matches and moments to relive.
Next Generation Support and New Features
EAW 2K21 will feature the same gameplay of the previous iteration along with graphical improvements to make the most out of the power of current and next gen consoles. HDR and native 4K support has been confirmed for both next generation versions of the game. Gameplay wise, EAW 2K21 is scheduled to feature a newly introduced Rivalry Mode that was announced in a recent development diary. The Rivalry Mode will allow players to take active control of their favorite EAW stars and follow them through a story rich, narrative experience featuring over 50.000 lines of text and visual novel styled cutscenes.
