DUW Last Call (2014) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event that took place on October 25, 2014 in Manly, Queensland, Australia. The event was produced by Down Under Wrestling, and celebrated the company's third anniversary.
Background[]
The main match on the card was the World Heavyweight Championship Match between champion Sarinyde and challenger Blake Roderick. In addition to this match being for the World Heavyweight Title, control of the company also hung in the balance, as this match was the blow-off to a near-ten month feud between DUW founder Austin Henderson, and new CEO Missy Chick, who had taken the company over against Henderson's wishes. As per an agreement made months prior, if Sarinyde were to retain the championship at the event, Missy Chick would remain the permanent CEO of the company; however, if Henderson's handpicked challenger Blake Roderick could become champion, Henderson would be reinstated as the owner.
Another major feud heading into the event was for the Women's Championship, which featured Becky Saint defending against relative-newcomer Kelsey Spencer. Saint, who had gone through many trials and tribulations to finally earn the title, became increasingly and noticeably jealous of Spencer's ability to win matches, and the opportunities she was receiving as a result. This came to a head at an event in July earlier that year, when Spencer made a blind tag on Saint, and then made one of their opponents, Sophie Ryan, submit during a tag team match. Saint assaulted Spencer post-match, turning heel and eventually leading to an Iron Maiden Match between the two at Last Call.
A heavily promoted match for the event was between Jeff Palmer and Adam McIntyre for the Trans-Tasman Championship. McIntyre had challenged anyone whom he hadn't faced in a match before to step up and try and take his title from him; the call was answered by a debuting Jeff Palmer, who had made a name for himself in Online Wrestling Alliance. Palmer defeated McIntyre in near-record time, becoming the champion in his first match. Palmer won their rematch a month later, and as a reward, he was added to the World Heavyweight Title match between Sarinyde and Heath Williams later that evening. During the World Title Triple Threat, McIntyre assaulted Palmer with a barbed-wire baseball bat, effectively ruining his chances to become champion. This led to a Falls Count Anywhere Match being announced for Last Call between the two, with the Trans-Tasman Title on the line.
