The AWA World Tag Team Championship was the primary championship in the American Wrestling Alliance professional wrestling organization. It was created in July 2006.

History[]

Origin[]

On July 2, 2006, Cheetah and Phoenix won the AWA World Tag Team Championship titles in a Gauntlet for the Gold Match. The new championship was not initially represented by its own title belt, and CCW continued to use the CCW World Tag Team Championship title belt. Because of this, AWA regularly claimed the AWA World Tag Team Championship lineage for its own championship.

Current Champion[]

The current AWA World Tag Team Champions is Cheetah and Phoenix, who defeated Ice and Storm at Clash of the Champions III on June 25, 2006 in Nashville, Tennessee. This is Cheetahs' and Phoenixs' first reign as champions.
