Professional wrestling career

Southern Iowa Championship Wrestling

Morris debuted in SIC Wrestling in March 2003 as "The Talk of the Town" Austin Anderson. Anderson spent much of his early career teaming with Nolan Matthews. At the Down With the SICness event in March 2005, Anderson and Matthews defeated Chris Michaels and Evan Michaels for the Pride of Iowa Tag-Team Titles.

Anderson remained with Southern Iowa Championship Wrestling until the company's closing in August 2007. At SIC Wrestling's final event, Thanks for the Memories, Austin Anderson defeated Evan Michaels to win his first and only Pride of Iowa Heavyweight Championship.

Network Wrestling Alliance

Morris spent much of 2008-2009 training at the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo in Japan, where he adopted the ironic nickname "Montaro" (Japanese for "Big Boy"). In the fall of 2009, Morris debuted in Kwan Chang's Network Wrestling Alliance as "The 21st Century Killing Machine" Austin Montaro. Shortly after his debut, Montaro aligned himself with "The Starr Destroyer" Dustin Starr as the iconic MonStarr tag-team. The duo held the NWA World Tag-Team Titles on two separate occasions.

Heading into the NWA's biggest pay-per-view of the year, Starrcade, Montaro was embroiled in a violent and personal feud with the NWA Pure Violence Champion, Craig Harris. At Starrcade 2009, Montaro defeated Harris to win his first and only NWA Pure Violence Championship.
